Cursillo
Ministry Overview
Imported from Spain, the Cursillo movement began in the United States in 1961. Cursillo, meaning "little courses," is a spiritual renewal movement within the Catholic Church. It assists its members to live a fundamental Christian life; it helps people to discover and fulfill their personal vocations within their families, their church, their work, and their neighborhoods.
Cursillo weekends (Thursday night through Sunday afternoon) are held twice a year for men and women (separately) in Nashville. These weekends are an introduction to the Cursillo movement. Group reunions are held weekly. A 'groupo' consists of a smallnumber of men or women, who share their spiritual growth from the previous week. They review their personal goals of Holiness, Formation, and, Evangelization. This weekly gathering is the most important part of Cursillo life. An Ultreya (Spanish for 'onward') is a meeting of the larger Cursillo community.
Cursillo at Holy Family
We have about 80 known parish members who have made a Cursillo. There are nine active groupos, consisting of slightly more than half of our members. Grouping is the most important activity of our ministry. We occasionally send out newsletters, conduct information meetings, attend Ultreyas, and, gather together socially.
